Welcome to the home of Hockey Nova Scotia!
Jul. 10, 2020

Hockey Nova Scotia is proud to announce that the West Colchester Cobras Minor Hockey Association is the winner of our 2020 Lauchie MacIsaac Award.

The West Colchester Minor Hockey Association’s commitment to development was on full-display throughout the past season. Throughout the last hockey year, the association hosted its own Development Weekend to help its players fine-tune and refine their skills on the ice. The organization also built a development team made up of coaches from surrounding communities. This group hosted development sessions every Monday night during the hockey season that were free of charge to all of its members.

The offseason, however, has been a very difficult one for the association. In April, West Colchester was rocked by the tragedy in Portapique. Many families in the community were affected by the violence including the the family of association treasurer Jamie Blair and her husband Greg. Other families lost beloved parents and grandparents.

Despite the tragedy, the hockey community came together to show its support. The West Colchester Cares fundraiser was quickly launched to collect funds for the players who were directly impacted by the violence and Cobra pride was evident in the days and weeks that followed.

While the West Colchester hockey family continues to grieve, they are are committed to looking after one another and getting back on the ice soon. We know that when they do, the growth and development of their players will be their top priority.

On behalf of everyone at Hockey Nova Scotia, we would like to congratulate the West Colchester Cobras Minor Hockey Association on receiving our 2020 Lauchie MacIsaac Award.
