CLARE-DIGBY'S DEVEAU HONOURED WITH BFL CANADA FEMALE COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
May. 15, 2020

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada, in partnership with BFL CANADA, announced today the first winners of the BFL Female Coach of the Year awards. Introduced as an international marketing partner in October 2019, BFL CANADA’s commitment is to focus on growth and development opportunities for women in the game, on the ice and behind the bench.

This year, Josanne Deveau been selected as Nova Scotia’s BFL Female Coach of the Year.

During the past hockey season, Deveau was the head coach of the U9 Development team in the Clare-Digby Minor Hockey Association. A long-time player who played her early hockey with the Clare-Digby Minor Hockey Association, the Yarmouth Minor Hockey Association, and the Valley Wild Female Hockey Association, the 22-year old has been a coach in the Clare-Digby system for the past four years.

Deveau was nominated for the award by a parent of one of her players who said:

Josanne is well-known amongst other coaches, kids and parents. She not only demonstrates good sportsmanship at every game, but she also teaches it to our kids who all demonstrate it by encouraging their teammates, helping others when they have fallen or dropped their sticks – even their opponents, cheering others, and shaking hands. Josanne treats all team players equally and she encourages and congratulates them all the same. The kids really look up to her and she sets such a good example.

Josanne knows every single player very well. She not only knows their names but she knows their personalities, their hobbies, their parents' names, their friends' names, and what school they go to. She makes an effort at every single practice and game to chat with every single child, encourage them, ask them how their week went, and congratulates every single one of them after each game, telling them how well they did.

The children and parents absolutely love her!

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Josanne on winning the 2020 BFL Female Coach of the Year Award. It is very well-deserved!
