DARTMOUTH – There are changes coming to the way female hockey is offered in Nova Scotia that will improve choice and flexibility for families.

During the upcoming 2019-20 hockey season, the Metro West Force Female Hockey Association, Metro East Inferno Female Hockey Association, and Valley Wild Female Hockey Association will offer Novice hockey.

The Hockey Nova Scotia board approved the policy change earlier this month. Previously, Atom was the first level of hockey offered by Nova Scotia’s three Female Hockey Associations (FHAs).

“We wanted to give parents the choice and flexibility to register their Novice-aged daughters on all-female teams at the Novice level,” said Female Council chair Stephen Murray.

“We believe it is important to allow young female players to play together and experience our game together at the earliest levels of hockey.”

Female players planning to sign up for Novice hockey must register through the Hockey Nova Scotia Female Hockey Central Registry.

Female players who wish to remain with their local Minor Hockey Association will have the option to do so.

Female Hockey Association Novice teams will follow the same rules and playing structure as Novice teams from Minor Hockey Associations (MHA).

Novice teams from FHAs will be permitted to play against Novice teams from MHAs.

Hockey Nova Scotia’s Female Council and Minor Council will work with our FHAs and MHAs to ensure the success of these new changes.
