HILL CELEBRATES FIFTY YEARS OF HOCKEY OFFICIATING IN NOVA SCOTIA
Jan. 15, 2019

For the past five decades, Rick Hill has dedicated himself to growing hockey officiating in Nova Scotia and making the game safe and fun for everyone on the ice.

In 1968, the Dartmouth native stepped up and answered the call from the Maritime Amateur Hockey Association – a precursor to Hockey Nova Scotia – to join the officiating ranks.

In those early years of his officiating career, Hill spent much of his time helping out on the minor hockey circuit. But just three years after first donning the stripes, he was assigned to the province’s elite levels, an area of the game that he would remain heavily involved in for the next three decades.

Over the years, Hill would gain a reputation as a knowledgeable, fair and consistent referee while officiating at national championships from Midget and Junior A to university and senior.

Two decades into his on-ice career, Hill began to lend his time to the branch as an officiating clinic instructor. He also got involved with the Hockey Nova Scotia Officiating High Performance Program.

More than thirty years later, he’s still a regular fixture at those clinics and a mentor to aspiring referees.

A familiar face at rinks across the province, Hill has always adapted to the game’s changing current while maintaining high expectations for the officials that he has worked with and helped along the way.

Throughout the past five decades, Hill has humbly given of his time to help make the game and its officials better.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Rick Hill on celebrating fifty
years of officiating this season.

Thank you for your generous contribution, Rick.
