DALLAS — Three Nova Scotians heard their names called by NHL teams on Saturday.

Jared McIsaac, Luke Henman and Peter Diliberatore were selected by National Hockey League clubs at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft that was held in Dallas over the weekend. The three players are all former members of the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League, the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League and the Hockey Nova Scotia High Performance Program.

Truro’s Jared McIsaac was the first Nova Scotian to be chosen by an NHL club in Texas. The Halifax Mooseheads defenceman was picked 36th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the draft on Saturday. McIsaac, a former member of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League's Cole Harbour WolfPack, tallied nine goals and added 38 assists in 65 games to lead the Mooseheads defence in scoring last season.

McIsaac was the youngest member of Nova Scotia's Canada Winter Games team that finished fifth in 2015, the province’s best finish since 1979.

Henman became the second Nova Scotian off the board when the Dartmouth native was picked 96th overall in the fourth round by the Carolina Hurricanes. A product of the Dartmouth Whalers Minor Hockey Association and a graduate of the NSMMHL’s Steele Subaru Major Midget program, the Dartmouth forward chipped in nine goals and 38 assists in 61 games for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Diliberatore, who played with McIsaac and Henman on Nova Scotia's 2016 QMJHL Gatorade Excellence Challenge U16 team, was a sixth round selection (180th overall) of the Vegas Golden Knights. The Bedford native, who is an alumnus of the Bedford Barons and the Steele Subaru Major Midgets, was one of four defensemen chosen by Vegas at this weekend’s draft.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Jared, Luke and Peter on their selections and wish them the best of luck as they continue on their hockey journeys.
