TWO NEW MINOR MIDGET TEAMS JOIN NSMMAAAHL FOR 2018-19 SEASON
Apr. 16, 2018

DARTMOUTH — A pair of new teams will join the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League in 2018.

Beginning during the 2018-19 season, the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League (NSMMAAAHL) will expand to eight teams with the addition of the Colchester County Flash and the Cabot Highlanders.

The Colchester County Flash will play their home games out of the Colchester Legion Stadium in Truro. The team will include players from within the following boundaries: Pictou County, Truro, Cumberland County, Tatamagouche, Parrsboro, South Colchester and West Colchester minor hockey associations. The Flash will replace the team in the area formerly known as the M. U. Rhino Renovations Rhinos.

The Cabot Highlanders will be based out of the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre and will draw players from the following minor hockey associations: Strait-Richmond, Cape Breton West, Antigonish and Canso.

The NSMMAAAHL launched in September 2017 with a focus on player development and helping players advance to the next level. The NSMMAAAHL includes the Admirals Hockey Club, Valley Minor Midget Wildcats, Dartmouth Voyageurs, Cape Breton Jets, the Basin Armada, and ChiroCare Kings.

On Sunday, March 25, the Admirals defeated the Basin Armada 2-0 in the first-ever NSMMAAAHL provincial championship game to capture the provincial title.

Teams in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League are made-up of players who meet the following criteria:
  • Players who are 15 years of age during the playing season
  • Players who are 16 years of age during the playing season but who are born after September 1
  • Players who are 16 years of age during the entire playing season (a limit of four per team)
Hockey Nova Scotia would like to welcome the Colchester County Flash and the Cabot Highlanders to the NSMMAAAHL and wish them the best of luck next season.
