2018 HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA DAY OF CHAMPIONS BEGINS FRIDAY IN TRURO
Apr. 5, 2018
TRURO — The puck drops on the 2018 Hockey Nova Scotia Day of Champions on Friday in Truro.
From April 6-8, sixteen provincial champions will be crowned at levels from Atom B to Minor Junior at the Hockey Nova Scotia Day of Champions. This year’s event is being held at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.
The Day of Champions format was introduced in 2015 and sees the top team from Hockey Nova Scotia’s North Conference take on the best team from the South Conference in a single championship game that will determine a provincial winner.
“The first time we hosted this event back in 2015, we held it in Truro,” said Garth Isenor, president of Hockey Nova Scotia. “We are looking forward to returning there this weekend to showcase some terrific minor hockey.”

"We are thrilled to have Lyle Carter serve as our honourary chair for the 2018 Hockey Nova Scotia Day of Champions," Isenor said. "Mr. Carter has an impressive hockey background and we are honoured to have him with us here this weekend in his own backyard."
The action begins at 11 a.m. on Friday when Cape Breton West's Port Hood Islanders take on the Bedford Blues with Atom B provincial bragging rights up for grabs. It’s the first of six games on Day 1 of this year’s Day of Champions event. Five games are scheduled for Saturday, including the Bantam A championship game between the Sackville Flyers and the Antigonish Bulldogs. The puck drops at 4:30 p.m. and will conclude the minor hockey portion of the event.
The female hockey schedule begins on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. when the Cape Breton West Islanders take on the Valley Wild for the Female Atom A provincial title. It is the first of five female hockey finals that will include championships at the Atom AA, Peewee A, Bantam A and Midget A levels.
Rosters for all of the teams competing at the event can be found below.
