2017-18 PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENTS GET UNDERWAY THIS WEEK

DARTMOUTH — The first provincial championships of the 2017-18 season get underway this week at rinks across the province.

Peewee AAA, NSMBHL and NSMMAAAHL tournaments begin today, while Female Bantam AA and Female Peewee AA championships start tomorrow. Here's what you need to know:


NOVA SCOTIA MINOR MIDGET AAA HOCKEY LEAGUE (NSMMAAAHL) PROVINCIALS:
 
The inaugural Nova Scotia Minor Midget Midget AAA Hockey League provincial championship begins today in New Waterford. The event is hosted by the Cape Breton Jets. The action gets underway at 12 p.m. when the hosts take on the Pictou-based Rhinos in the opening game at the New Waterford and District Community Centre.
 

All seven teams from the NSMMAAAHL will be vying for the provincial championship. The Jets finished the year with the best record in the league.

PEEWEE AAA PROVINCIALS:

Peewee AAA Provincials also start today. The Peewee tournament is hosted by the TASA Ducks at the St. Margaret's Centre in Upper Tantallon. Aside from the host Ducks, the tournament will also feature teams from Antigonish, Acadia, Glace Bay, Chebucto, Bedford and Sydney.
 

The hosts take on Bedford in Game 1 of the championship at noon. Here is a complete look at the opening day schedule:

FEMALE BANTAM AA:

This year's Female Bantam AA provincial championship starts Friday at the Apple Dome in Berwick. The host Valley Wild are joined at the tournament by Metro West White, Metro West Blue, Metro East, Valley WIld, and the Fundy-Highland Subway Selects.

The opening game will feature the Valley Wild and Metro West Blue. The puck drops at 11 a.m. on Friday.
 

FEMALE PEEWEE AA:

The Fundy-Highland Subway Selects host the top Female Peewee AA teams in Nova Scotia this weekend. The Selects are joined at the tournament by a trio of represenatives from the Metro West Female Hockey Association including the Metro West Force Red, White and Blue teams. The Metro East Inferno will also compete for the championship.

The Selects open the tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Hector Arena when they take on the Inferno.


NOVA SCOTIA MAJOR BANTAM HOCKEY LEAGUE (NSMBHL) PROVINCIALS:

The Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League Provincials get underway on Thursday at the Queens Place Emera Centre. The Western Hurricanes are the hosts of this year's championship.

The Hurricanes finished the season in fourth place in the NSMBHL standings.
 

The Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm open the 2017-18 provincial championship when they take on the Gulls at 12 p.m. on Thursday at the Queens Place Emera Centre. Here is a complete look at the opening day schedule:


Three more provincial champions will be decided at tournaments next month. Female Midget AA provincials run from April 6-8 at the St. Margaret's Centre.

Bantam AA Provincials, hosted by the Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association, take place from April 5-8 while Midget AA Provincials, hosted by the Antigonish Minor Hockey Association, run from April 6-8.

The Hockey Nova Scotia Day of Champions will take place from April 6-8 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.
