ACADIA, BEDFORD AND METRO WEST CAPTURE LAST PROVINCIAL TITLES OF THE SEASON

DARTMOUTH — Three Nova Scotia teams are bringing home banners after winning the final provincial championship games of the season on Sunday.

The last three provincial tournaments of the year were held over the weekend. The remaining events included the Bantam AA provincials, Midget AA provincials, and Female Midget AA provincials.

The Bantam AA provincials were hosted by the Glace Bay Miners at the Bayplex in Glace Bay. The hosts were impressive in round-robin play, posting a 3-1 record and qualifying for Sunday’s semi-finals where the Miners defeated Cole Harbour 3-1.

The Acadia Axemen were undefeated in the round-robin, finishing the opening round with a 3-0-1 record. Acadia’s only tie came against Chebucto on Friday when their game finished in a 1-1 draw.

In the semi-finals, the Axemen edged Yarmouth 3-2 to earn a berth in the championship game where they faced the host Miners. The Axemen were dominant throughout the game, winning 7-1 to capture their association’s first-ever Bantam AA title.

In the Midget AA final on Sunday, the Bedford Blues faced-off against the Antigonish Bulldogs at the Spryfield Lions Rink, home of the Chebucto Atlantics.

Antigonish (3-1 during the round-robin) topped Dartmouth 2-1 in the semi-finals to qualify for the gold medal game. The Bedford Blues were the top team in the opening round, posting four wins. In the semis, Bedford beat TASA 6-1.

The Blues continued their dominant run into Sunday’s final, handing Antigonish an 8-2 loss and winning the Midget AA provincial crown.

Female Midget AA provincials were held at the Pictou County Wellness Centre over the weekend.

The gold medal game saw the undefeated Cape Breton West Islanders (3-0-1) taking on the Metro West Force (2-2).

Metro West scored with just 16 seconds left on the clock to force overtime and, eventually, a shootout. The Force were victorious in the shootout, claiming the Female Midget AA championship.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Acadia, Bedford and Metro West on their provincial victories.
