UNDEFEATED NORTHERN SUBWAY SELECTS FACE MID-ISLE WILDCATS FOR ATLANTIC GOLD ON SUNDAY

Western Warriors take on the Moncton Rockets for bronze

LANTZ, N.S. – The stage is set for Sunday’s medal round match-ups at the 2017 Atlantic Midget Female Hockey Championship.

The undefeated Northern Subway Selects (4-0) will take on Prince Edward Island’s Mid-Isle Wildcats (3-1) in Suday's gold medal game. The Selects handed the Wildcats a 3-2 loss on Thursday, Mid-Isle's only loss of the tournament. The puck drops at 1 p.m. on at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, N.S.


The winner of the gold medal game will represent the Atlantic region at the 2017 Esso Cup in Morden, Man. The national championship runs from April 23-27.

In the bronze medal match-up, the Moncton Rockets (1-3) take on Newfoundland and Labrador’s Western Warriors (1-3). The Rockets defeated Western 6-3 on the opening day of the event. The game is scheduled for 10 a.m.

In today’s action, the Selects stayed perfect with a 6-4 victory over Western. Katie Pentz scored once and added a pair of helpers in the victory. Jenna Landry stopped 24 of the 28 shots fired her way to pick up the win in goal.

The host Pro Cresting Penguins earned their first victory of the event as they defeated Moncton 4-1 on Saturday. Kathryn Mitchell led the way offensively with a pair of goals for the Penguins while goaltender Josie Adamski was almost perfect, stopping 27 of 28 shots on goal.

In the other match-up of the day, the Mid-Isle Wildcats topped the Western Warriors 6-4. Taylor Gillis notched a hat trick and chipped in two assists in the Wildcats' winning effort.

Earlier this evening at a banquet held at the Best Western in Dartmouth, the organizing committee handed out trophies to some of the top players at this year’s Atlantic Midget Female Hockey Championship.

Top Goaltender: Maggie Johnston (Mid-Isle Wildcats)
Top Forward: Abby Beale (Moncton Rockets)
Top Defenceman: Julia Scammell (Northern Subway Selects)
Most Valuable Players: Jolena Gillard (Western Warriors)
