HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA APPROVES PROVINCE’S FIRST-EVER FEMALE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

Metro West Force FHA will administer female hockey in the Halifax area beginning next season

DARTMOUTH – Hockey Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the approval of the branch’s first-ever Female Hockey Association.

Beginning during the 2017-18 season, the Metro West Force Female Hockey Association will become Hockey Nova Scotia’s first member association solely focused on female hockey.

“We are very excited to welcome the Metro West Force Female Hockey Association to the Hockey Nova Scotia family,” said Hockey Nova Scotia president Garth Isenor. “This is a positive step in the right direction for female hockey in Nova Scotia.”

Starting next season, the Metro West Force Female Hockey Association will be responsible for the administration of female hockey in Halifax area communities formerly administered by the Halifax, Sackville, Chebucto, TASA and Bedford minor hockey associations.

“This change will allow the Metro West Force Female Hockey Association to concentrate exclusively on the growth and development of the female game in the Halifax area,” Isenor said.

The establishment of this new female hockey association is just the latest step that Hockey Nova Scotia and the Hockey Nova Scotia Female Council have taken to improve the administration and development of female hockey in our province. In 2015, Hockey Nova Scotia’s Female Council regionalized the female game by creating new executive committees in six geographical zones across Nova Scotia (including the Metro West zone). This change was positive both on and off the ice as it improved competition as well as governance.

“We believe that the creation of our first female hockey association in Metro West is just the beginning,” said Hockey Nova Scotia Female Council chair Stephen Murray. “We are hopeful that in the near future, we will have not one, but six female hockey associations across our province.”

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to welcome the Metro West Force Female Hockey Association to our branch. We look forward to working with our newest member association to grow the female game across Nova Scotia.
