NEW GLASGOW – The Northern Subway Selects have captured their first-ever Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League championship banner.

The Selects defeated Metro Boston Pizza 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Pictou County Wellness Centre in New Glasgow to win their best-of-three Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League (NSFMHL) series final 3-1.

Katelyn Pentz scored the game-winning goal for the Selects in the first period of Game 4. Lily Currie made 22 saves in goal for the Pictou County-based team to earn the shutout and victory between the pipes.

The Northern Subway Selects will now represent Nova Scotia at the 2017 Female Midget AAA Atlantics in East Hants later this month. The tournament, hosted by the East Hants-based Pro Cresting Penguins, runs from March 30 until April 2.
