The Newbridge Academy Gladiators are Atlantic Major Midget champions.

The Gladiators defeated the Moncton Flyers 4-3 in the Atlantic Major Midget championship game in Kensington, PE on Sunday afternoon.

The Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League champions went 2-0-2 during the round robin to earn a berth in Sunday’s final. After a scoreless first period, Kynan Berger got the Gladiators on the board as he beat Flyers’ goaltender Julian Galloway to put Newbridge Academy up 1-0. Noah McMullin and Morgan Barron would added single markers shortly after to give the Gladiators a 3-0 lead after two periods of play.

Matthew Crowell would add a goal in the third period as the Gladiators were able to hold off a Moncton comeback and take the final 4-3.

Newbridge Academy netminder Matt Williams stopped 33 of the 36 shots fired his way to register the win.

The Atlantics gold medal victory earns the Gladiators a trip to the 2015 Telus Cup which runs from April 20-26 in Riviere-du-Loup, QC.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate the Gladiators on their victory and wish them the best of luck at nationals later this month.
