IRVING OIL CHALLENGE CUP HITS THE ICE APRIL 9TH!
Mar. 24, 2015

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – The countdown is on! The Irving Oil Challenge Cup is just days away!

The 2015 Irving Oil Challenge Cup is the 24th installment of the prestigious tournament that sees the top Major Bantam and Bantam AAA teams from across Atlantic Canada face-off for regional bragging rights and a chance to hoist the Cup.

The puck drops on the 24th Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup on April 9, 2015 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in Dartmouth, N.S. The Dartmouth Maritime Hockey Academy Major Bantam Whalers of the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League (NSMBHL) – hosts of the 2015 tournament – will compete against the championship-winning teams from the NSMBHL (The Novas), the PEI Bantam AAA Hockey League, the Irving Oil New Brunswick Bantam AAA Hockey League and the Newfoundland Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League.

The Novas captured the NSMBHL title thanks to a 2-1 overtime win over the Whalers at Major Bantam provincials back on March 15. The Novas' Jacob Hudson beat Whalers' goaltender Cole McLaren with 1:21 to go in the second overtime period of the gold medal game.

The Whalers and Novas will look to defend Nova Scotia’s crown at the tournament following the NSMBHL’s Bubba Ray’s Gulls’ championship performance at the 2014 Irving Oil Challenge Cup in Mount Pearl, N.L.

Todd Watson, president of the NSMBHL, says the league and its executive members are very excited about having the opportunity to host tournament in April.

“This is one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments in Canada,” Watson said. “This will showcase not only our league but all of the Major Bantam players from across Atlantic Canada.”

The tournament runs from April 9-12, 2015 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in Dartmouth, N.S.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to wish the best of luck to The Novas who will represent Team Nova Scotia and to the tournament host from Dartmouth!
