Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League

Saturday, January 17, 2015


Landwork Gulls @ Kings Mutual

5:00PM – 7:00PM

Kings Mutual Century Centre, Berwick

The Landworks Gulls (13-7-4) are travelling to the Valley this weekend to face off against Kings Mutual (`1-24-2) at the Kings Mutual Century Centre starting at 5:00PM. One of the league’s top scorers, Matthew Ormon (Landworks Gulls), will be on the ice. Ormon has 20 goals and 21 assists so far this season.    


Dartmouth Whalers @ The Novas

5:00PM – 7:00PM

Antigonish Arena, Antionish

Should be a great matchup this Saturday at the Antigonish Arena. The top two teams in the league, the Dartmouth Whalers (24-2-0) and The Novas (22-5-0), will go head to head starting at 5:00PM. Lots of offense on the ice for both teams. Luke Herman, for the Whalers, is leading the league in points with 45. Logan Timmons, for the Novas, is leading the league in goals with 29.


Truro Bearcats @ ACCEL Hawks

7:00PM – 9:00PM

Halifax Civic Arena

At the Halifax Civic Centre this Saturday the ACCEL Hawks (11-15-1), will be hosting the Truro Bearcats (13-7-6), for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.  The Bearcats goalies are having a good season this year with a combined six shutouts.    


Newbridge Senators @ Bedford Barons

7:00PM – 9:00PM

BMO Centre (Pad D), Bedford

Both the Newbridge Senators (15-11-1), and the Bedford Barons (17-8-1), will be looking to climb in the standings this Saturday at the BMO Centre starting at 7:00PM. The Barons goalie, Thomson Phinney, is playing well this year with a GAA of 1.71 and four shutouts. 


Pro Life Hockey Harbour Storm @ Joneljim Cougars

7:15PM – 9:15PM

Emera Centre Northside, North Sydney

Pro Life Hockey Harbour Storm (12-11-2) will be making the trip to Cape Breton this Saturday to face off in what should be a tough match-up against the Joneljim Cougars (14-12-2). The game starts at 7:15PM at the Emera Centre Northside.  Playing for the Cougars are the second and fourth top scorers in the league, Kinnon Williams (21 goals) and Ashton Paul (19 goals).


Western Hurricanes @ Scotsburn Crushers

7:30PM – 9:30PM

Pictou County Wellness Centre, New Glasgow

The Scotsburn Crushers (10-13-2) will be hosting the Western Hurricanes (5-19-2) this Saturday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre Main, starting at 7:30PM. The leagues fifth top goal scorer, Kevin Mason (sixteen goals) will be on the ice playing for the Scotsburn Crushers.

 
Sunday, January 18th

Bedford Barons @ Western Hurricanes

11:00AM – 1:00PM

Queens Place Emera Centre, Liverpool

Starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool, the Bedford Barons (17-8-1) will be taking on the Western Hurricanes (5-19-2). These two teams haven’t played each other since the start of the season.  Andrew Coxhead, is sixth in the league for points this year with thirty-six points. He’s one to watch on the ice in this game.


Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm @ Joneljim Cougars

11:15AM – 1:15PM

Emera Centre Northside, North Sydney

Part two of this two-game weekend series between the Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm (12-11-2), and the Joneljim Cougars (14-12-2) will happen on Sunday at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney. Keep an eye out for it! 


Truro Bearcats @ Landworks Gulls

11:30AM – 1:30PM

St Margarets Bay Arena (Fountain), Upper Tantallon

With these two teams only separated by two points in the standings, it should be an interesting matchup as they go head to head Sunday, January 18th, at the St. Margarets Bay arena starting at 11:30 a.m. The home team, the Landworks Gulls (13-7-4), are only two points behind the away team, the Truro Bearcats (13-7-6). Matthew Ormon, who is second in total points in the league, will be on the ice for the Landworks Gulls.  

 
Dartmouth Whalers @ ACCEL Hawks

12:00PM – 2:00PM

Halifax Forum, Halifax

It’ll be a Halifax-Dartmouth matchup this Sunday as the first place Dartmouth Whalers (24-2-0), head across the harbour to take on the ACCEL Hawks (11-15-1) at the Halifax Forum at noon. The last time these teams met was on January 8th in a close game. Dartmouth took it 4-3.   


Kings Mutual @ Scotsburn Crushers

12:15PM – 2:15PM

Pictou County Wellness Centre, New Glasgow

Kings Mutual (1-24-2), will be at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, Sunday January 18th at 12:15PM, to face-off against the Scotsburn Crushers (10-13-2). The Scotsburn Crushers have won their last three games and will try to keep that streak going this weekend. Kings Mutual will certainly be eager to take that opportunity away from them. Kevin Mason (Scotsburn Crushers), is a player to watch as he has scored five goals in his last three games.    

 
The Novas @ Newbridge Senators

12:30PM – 2:30PM

East Hants Sportsplex (Pad B), Lantz

The Newbridge Senators (15-11-1), will be hosting the visiting Novas (22-5-0), this Sunday. It’s shaping up to be an exciting game as league leading goal scorer Logan Timmons will be on the ice for The Novas, and one of the goaltenders with one of the top GAA in the league, Lucas Fitzpatrick, suits up for the Senators.

 

Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League

Saturday January 17th

Charlie’s Pizza South Shore Mustangs @ Valley CIBC Wood Gundy Wildcats

7:00PM – 9:30PM

Kings Mutual Century Centre, Berwick

The Valley CIBC Wood Gundy Wildcats (10-19-0), are hosting the Charlie’s Pizza South Shore Mustangs (16-9-6), on Saturday, January 17th, 7:00PM at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick. These two teams have met four times previously this season. Three of those encounters resulted in a Wlidcats victory. The Mustangs should be eager to even out the score. There will also be a lot of exciting talent on the ice this game. Drake Batherson (Wildcats) is second in the league point’s standings this year with forty. 


Halifax MacDonald’s Major Midget @ Newbridge Academy Gladiators  

7:15PM – 9:45PM

Dartmouth Sportsplex, Dartmouth

The top two teams in the league will be facing off in Dartmouth on Saturday. The first place team, Newbridge Academy Gladiators (21-4-4) will be hosting the second place Halifax MacDonald’s Major Midget (21-9-1). Two players to watch are the league’s leading goal scorer and top rookie, Shane Bowers (Halifax MacDonald’s), who has 47 points this year, and Gladiators’ player Morgan Barron, who has 36 points.


Cape Breton Tradesmen @ Weeks Major Midgets

7:30PM – 10:00PM

Pictou County Wellness Centre, New Glasgow

The Cape Breton Tradesmen (12-17-2), will be making the trip to Pictou County this Saturday to face-off against the Weeks Major Midgets (10-17-1) in a two-game weekend series. There will be lots of young talent on the ice in this game as Logan O’Neil and Brad Dauphinee both play for the Tradesmen and are two of the top rookies in the league.


Sunday January 18th

Valley Wood Gundy Wildcats @ Halifax MacDonald’s Major Midget

12:00PM – 2:30PM

Halifax Civic Centre, Halifax

The Valley Wood Gundy Wildcats (10-19-0) are on their way to Halifax on Sunday to take on lead scorer Shane Bowers, and the second place Halifax MacDonald’ s Major Midget (21 – 9 – 1). Halifax has won four out of the five encounters these teams have had this season and the Wildcats are certainly looking to help even out that record with a win.


Cape Breton Tradesmen @ Weeks Major Midgets

1:00PM – 3:30PM

Pictou County Wellness Centre, New Glasgow

The second part of this two-game weekend series between the Cape Breton Tradesmen (12-17-2), and Weeks Major Midgets (10-17 -1) hits the ice at the Pictou County Wellness Centre on Sunday. This should be an interesting game as these teams are pretty close in the standings and will have already played one game against each other on Saturday.


Newbridge Academy Gladiators @ Charlie’s Pizza South Shore Mustangs

1:00PM – 3:30PM

Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre

Good game at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre this Sunday. The visiting team, first place Newbridge Academy Gladiators (21-4-4), will be taking on Charlie’s Pizza South Shore Mustangs (16-9-6). These teams have met three times previously this season with the Gladiators winning two of those contests and the Mustangs taking one. No doubt the Mustangs will be looking to even up the score.     



Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League (NSFMHL)

Saturday January 17th

Pro Cresting Penguins @ Northern Subway Selects

12:30PM – 2:30PM

Pictou County Wellness Centre Arena, New Glasgow

The Pro Cresting Penguins (12-7-1), will face off against the first place Northern Subway Selects (12-5-3), on Saturday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre Arena for a two-game weekend series. Both teams are playing well lately, each tying or winning their last three games. Some players to watch are Taylor Keeping and Lauren Donovan for the Penguins, and Hillary Taylor and Megan Stewart for the Subway Selects.    


Metro Boston Pizza @ MacIntyre Chevy Panthers

7:00PM – 9:00PM

Centennial Arena, Sydney

Metro Boston Pizza (12-7-1), will be taking on the MacIntyre Chevy Panthers (2-16-2), at the Centennial Arena in Cape Breton this Saturday. This will be the first game the teams will play together this weekend; a second game will be played on Sunday. One thing to watch for is Metro Boston Pizza’s defense and goaltending. Metro Boston Pizza has only allowed twenty-six goals this season – that’s eleven less than any other team in the league.  


Sunday January 18th

Northern Subway Selects @ Pro Cresting Penguins

11:00AM – 1:00PM

East Hants Sportsplex, Lantz

The Pro Cresting Penguins (12-7-1), will face off against the first place Northern Subway Selects (12-5-3), on Sunday for part two of the two game weekend series. Should be a good one!


Metro Boston Pizza @ MacIntyre Chevy Panthers

11:30AM – 1:30PM

Centre 200, Sydney

Metro Boston Pizza (12-7-1), will be taking on the MacIntyre Chevy Panthers (2-16-2) for a second time this weekend as the two teams finish off their two-game weekend series. The game is set to start at 11:30 a.m. at Centre 200 in Sydney.
