PREPARATIONS ALREADY UNDERWAY FOR 2015 IRVING OIL CHALLENGE CUP
Nov. 28, 2014

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – It might be a season of hockey away but work is already well underway to ensure that the 2015 Irving Oil Challenge Cup goes off without a hitch.

The 2015 Irving Oil Challenge Cup is the 24th installment of the prestigious tournament that sees the top Major Bantam and Bantam AAA teams from across Atlantic Canada face-off for regional bragging rights and a chance to hoist the Cup.

The puck drops on the 24th Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup on April 9, 2015 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in Dartmouth, N.S. The Dartmouth Maritime Hockey Academy Major Bantam Whalers of the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League (NSMBHL) – hosts of the 2015 tournament – will compete against the championship-winning teams from the NSMBHL, the PEI Bantam AAA Hockey League, the Irving Oil New Brunswick Bantam AAA Hockey League and the Newfoundland Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League.

The Whalers will look to defend Nova Scotia’s crown at the tournament following the NSMBHL’s Bubba Ray’s Gulls’ championship performance at the 2014 Irving Oil Challenge Cup in Mount Pearl, N.L.

Todd Watson, president of the NSMBHL, says the league and its executive members are very excited about having the opportunity to host tournament in April.

“This is one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments in Canada,” Watson said. “This will showcase not only our league but all of the Major Bantam players from across Atlantic Canada.”

According to Watson, preparations for the tournament are already well underway.

“Right now, we have several different tournament committees that are hard at work as they look to ensure that we have a very successful event for everyone who makes the trip to Dartmouth in April,” said Watson. “Everything from transportation, accommodations, facilities and guest speakers are all being worked on as we speak.”

The tournament runs from April 9-12, 2015 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in Dartmouth, N.S.
