TURNBULL AND SAULNIER MAKE NATIONAL WOMEN'S TEAM DEBUTS TONIGHT

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Canada’s National Women’s Team takes on Sweden tonight in their opening game of the 2014 4 Nations Cup.
The 2014 4 Nations Cup brings together four of the top women’s hockey countries in the world - Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States – for the 19th annual international tournament.
Jill Saulnier (Halifax/Cornell University, ECAC) and Blayre Turnbull (Stellarton/University of Wisconsin, WCHA) will make their national women’s team debuts in tonight’s game. They are the first Nova Scotians to ever crack the national roster.
Finland will face the United States in the tournament-opening game at 1 p.m. PT on Nov. 4, with Canada meeting Sweden in the day’s late game at 7 p.m. PT. All three of Canada’s preliminary round games at the 2014 4 Nations Cup, as well as the bronze medal game and gold medal game, will be on TSN and RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, while non-Canada games will be available through live FASTHockey webcasts at www.hockeycanada.ca/4nations.
Canada’s roster for the 2014 4 Nations Cup includes three goaltenders, seven defencemen and 13 forwards, who were selected following Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival, held from Sept. 22-28 in Calgary, Alta.

Canada’s National Women’s Team roster for the 2014 4 Nations Cup includes:
- 10 players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia (Fortino, Irwin, Johnston, Lacasse, Larocque, Jenner, Rougeau, Spooner, Wakefield, Watchorn);
- 13 players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2013 4 Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y. (Birchard, Bram, Fortino, Irwin, Johnston, Kohanchuk, Lacasse, Larocque, Jenner, Rougeau, Spooner, Wakefield, Watchorn);
- five players who were a part of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team for a three-game series against the United States in Calgary in August (Ambrose, Clark, Krzyzaniak, Maschmeyer, Turnbull);
- 10 players who will make their debut with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2014 4 Nations Cup (Ambrose, Campbell, Clark, Howe, Krzyzaniak, Maschmeyer, Rattray, Saulnier, Terry, Turnbull).
Since the debut of the 4 Nations Cup in 1996, Canada’s National Women’s Team has won the gold medal a total of 13 times (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013), and earned silver on five occasions (1997, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2012).
