NOVA SCOTIA FEMALE MIDGET HOCKEY LEAGUE UNVEILS NEW LOGO
Aug. 22, 2014
DARTMOUTH – When the puck drops on the 2014-15 Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League (NSFMHL) season in a few weeks, the league will be sporting a brand new look.
This month, the NSFMHL unveiled a new logo for the upcoming season. The new trademark, pictured above, has a particular Maritime feel.
“There’s an Atlantic Canadian, East Coast theme to it,” new NSFMHL president Barry Wisener said. “We just wanted something that is contemporary, fresh and consistent with high profile league and team logos and I think we have that here.”
The new logo, in some ways, represents a new beginning for the league. Wisener is embarking on his first season as NSFMHL president after more than a decade as a coach, development coordinator and coach coordinator in Cole Harbour and a four year stint as Hockey Nova Scotia Female Council’s Development Director.
He says the new logo is about creating a recognizable brand for the league and marketing it to female players across the province.
“The potential and all of the good things the league has to offer are there but we just have to let people know about it,” Wisener said.
While the new logo is a fresh start for the league, Wisener is promising an exciting, talented on-ice product for the NSFMHL’s players that will prepare them for the next step in their hockey careers.
“Our goal is, through our coaches and our level of competition, to get our players ready for the AUS,” Wisener said.
When the 2014-15 season begins, the teams themselves will have a new look following a redrawing of the recruitment area boundaries for each of the NSFMHL’s four franchises at the end of the 2013-14 season.
This year, the four franchises will recruit their players from the following areas:
MacIntyre Chevy Panthers: Area inclusive of all Minor Hockey Associations within the Cape Breton and Strait Regions.
Northern Subway Selects: Area inclusive of all Highland and Fundy Region Minor Hockey Associations.
Pro Cresting Penguins: Area inclusive of Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Eastern Shore, East Hants, Bedford and Sackville Minor Hockey Associations.
Metro Boston Pizza: Area inclusive of Halifax, Chebucto and TASA Minor Hockey Associations and all Minor Hockey Associations in the Nova and Western Zones.
The schedule for the 2014-15 season will be released shortly.
