Three Nova Scotia hockey teams will be representing the province on Thursday while a fourth will host the region when the second week of Atlantic championship tournaments gets underway at rinks in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Female Midget AAA Atlantics

The Pro Cresting Pens will look to capture their first Female Midget AAA Atlantic title when they travel to Deer Lake, Newfoundland to take on Atlantic Canada's best.

The East Hants-based Pens defeated reigning league champs Metro Boston Pizza three games to one in their best-of-five Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League (NSFMHL) series to earn the right to represent our province at the tournament. The Pens were the first team other than Metro to capture the league title in the NSFMHL's short history.

The Pens will join the Moncton Rockets (Hockey New Brunswick), the Kings County Kings (Hockey PEI), the Central IcePak (Hockey Newfoundland) and host Western Female Midget AAAs at the Atlantic championship.

The Pro Cresting Pens will hit the ice in the tournament's opening game at 12:30 pm (AST) on Thursday when they face the Central IcePak.

Good luck to the Pens!

23rd Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup

The Bubba Ray’s Gulls will represent the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League (NSMBHL) at the 23rd Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup. That tournament starts on April 3 in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland.

The Gulls earned their ticket to the tournament thanks to a Shane Bowers' overtime goal that helped lead his team to a 3-2 victory over the Bedford Barons in the NSMBHL provincials championship game. The Gulls finished the regular season tied for second in the league with 55 points (27-5-1).

The Gull join the St. John's Ice Breakers (Hockey Newfoundland), Charlottetown Abbies (Hockey PEI), Moncton Hawks (Hockey New Brunswick) and host Tri Com Thunder at the Atlantic tournament.

The Gulls will face off against St. John's in the Atlantic championship's first game at 12:30 pm (AST).

Atlantic Major Midget Hockey Championship

The Halifax McDonalds will take to the ice at the Atlantic Major Midget Hockey Championship in New Glasgow on Thursday. The Macs defeated the Newbridge Gladiators four games to one in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League series final to earn a berth in the tournament.

Halifax will be joined by another Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League team: the tournament host Weeks Major Midgets.

The two Nova Scotia entries will be joined by the Kensington Wild (Hockey PEI), the Saint John Vitos (Hockey New Brunswick) and the Central IcePak (Hockey Newfoundland).

The Macs take on Kensington in the tournament's opening game on Thursday (1:00 pm AST) while the Weeks Major Midgets face off against the PEI team at 7:30 pm (AST).

The tournament runs from April 3rd to 6th at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. Go check out some great hockey action and support our teams!
