DARTMOUTH — Hockey Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the four successful bids that have been awarded Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League (NSFMHL) franchises for the 2014-15 season.

The Pro Cresting Penguins, Metro Boston Pizza, Northern Subway Selects and the MacIntyre Chevy Panthers have been renewed for the 2014-15 NSFMHL season. The four teams are the NSFMHL’s founding franchises and each team has been awarded a franchise for two years.

“We believe that we have chosen four franchises that share our vision and commitment to growing female hockey in this province and we couldn’t be more excited about that,” says Stephen Murray, chair of Hockey Nova Scotia’s Female Council.

The bidding process was opened in February when current and prospective franchise owners were asked to submit franchise bids following the rezoning of the league’s four franchise regions.

“These modifications to the league structure were made in an effort to create a more competitive league while further developing Nova Scotia’s top female midget hockey players,” says Hockey Nova Scotia President Randy Pulsifer. “We now have greater parity when it comes to the areas from which teams can recruit their players.”

The four franchises will now recruit their players from the following areas:

MacIntyre Chevy Panthers: Area inclusive of all Minor Hockey Associations within the Cape Breton and Strait Regions.

Northern Subway Selects:
Area inclusive of all Highland and Fundy Region Minor Hockey Associations.

Pro Cresting Penguins:
Area inclusive of Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Eastern Shore, East Hants, Bedford and Sackville Minor Hockey Associations.

Metro Boston Pizza:
Area inclusive of Halifax, Chebucto and TASA Minor Hockey Associations and all Minor Hockey Associations in the Nova and Western Zones.

Hockey Nova Scotia’s announcement comes as the 2013-14 NSFMHL championship final series is well underway. The best-of-five series between the Pro Cresting Penguins and Metro Boston Pizza is currently tied 1-1. The series continues this weekend.
