Welcome to the home of Hockey Nova Scotia!
Feb. 24, 2014

The two Nova Scotians who represented our province and country in hockey at the 2014 Sochi Olympics are returning home with some extra hardware this week.

Canada’s men’s hockey team captain Sidney Crosby and Lisa Haley, assistant coach with Canada’s women’s hockey team, are Olympic champions following their respective teams’ perfect performances in Russia.

Cole Harbour’s Crosby, taking part in his second Olympics, scored Canada’s second goal of the gold medal game en route to a 3-0 victory over Sweden on Sunday and his second consecutive gold medal. Canada’s men’s team finished the tournament with a 6-0 record as they outscored their opponents 17-3.

Canada’s women’s team also finished the Olympic tournament with a perfect 6-0 record. Westville’s Lisa Haley, taking part in her first Olympics, was an assistant coach with the team, working alongside fellow assistant coach Danielle Goyette and head coach Kevin Dineen.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Crosby and Haley for proudly representing our province and country in Sochi. However, they are not the only Nova Scotians who are Sochi-bound this winter. Cape Breton’s Scott Gouthro, video coach for Canada’s men’s sledge hockey team, will be attending the Paralympics next month. Good luck, Scott!
