CELEBRATE AFRICAN HERITAGE MONTH AT THE BMO CENTRE ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH
Feb. 11, 2014

Hockey Nova Scotia invites you to come out to the rink this week to celebrate African Heritage Month.

On Thursday, February 13th at 6 p.m. at the BMO Centre (61 Gary Martin Drive) in Bedford, hockey players from across the province will take to the ice in the Annual African Heritage Month Hockey Game. It is an African Heritage Month celebration that recognizes the contributions players from the Colored Hockey League made to the sport in the Maritimes.

This year, players taking part in the game will represent two former Colored Hockey League teams: the Hammonds Plains Moss Backs and the Charlottetown West End Rangers.

The Colored Hockey League was an all-black ice hockey league that was founded in Nova Scotia in 1895. The league operated until 1930 and during its history, featured hundreds of African Canadian players who played out of cities and towns across the Maritimes.

Admission for Thursday's game is $5 for adults and $2 for children. The event is hosted by the Black Ice Hockey and Sports Hall of Fame Society.

Hockey Nova Scotia encourages hockey fans everywhere to come out to the BMO Centre to celebrate African Heritage Month and Canada's game!
