Forty teams from across Eastern Canada are preparing to hit the ice in Bedford this week for the 2nd Annual Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam.

In Major Midget action, the Newbridge Academy Senators take on the Kings Mututal Valley Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on the BMO Centre's Pad A this afternoon in the first game of the tournament.

The event is an opportunity to showcase some of the best young hockey players in the region. This year, a Major Bantam division has been added so the tournament now boasts 19 Major Midget teams and 21 Major Bantam teams.

Thousands of fans packed the BMO Centre last year for the event. Among those in attendance were dozens of scouts from both the junior and university/college ranks.

All of the games will be taking place at the BMO Centre. For a complete tournament schedule, please click here. For more information on the event, visit the East Coast Ice Jam website.

The tournament runs from January 8th to January 12th.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to wish all of those participating in the event the best of luck. Stop by the BMO Centre this week for some great hockey!
