PUCK SET TO DROP ON GIRLS LONG GAME THIS WEEKEND
Oct. 8, 2013

HALIFAX, NS – When the puck is dropped at 7am on Saturday morning in Mount Pearl, NFLD, it will kick-start a celebration of female hockey that will be felt right across the country.

This weekend, Hockey Nova Scotia joins Hockey Canada and the International Ice Hockey Federation in celebrating the 3rd annual World Girls Hockey Weekend. It is an event which aims to celebrate the female game, unite Canadians in growing women’s hockey, and provide grassroots programming from coast to coast that allows girls and women of all ages to discover the sport, grow their skills and enjoy everything lacing up skates and stepping onto the ice has to offer.

The marquee event of this weekend’s celebration is the Long Game. The Long Game is actually four separate games that will be played from coast-to-coast in four divisions of female hockey: Atom, Peewee, Bantam and Midget. The games will begin in Newfoundland in the morning and continue in each province throughout the day, wrapping up at 5PM PST in Parksville, BC. The score from each game will carry over to the next game in the next province as teams represent Team Red and Team White in their respective divisions.

The following is a list of the games that will be played in Nova Scotia:

The Atom Long Game: 8am at the Al MacInnis Sport Centre in Port Hood.

The Peewee Long Game: 9am at the Westville Miners’ Sports Centre in Pictou County.

The Bantam Long Game: 10am at the Centennial Arena in Halifax.

The Midget Long Game: 11am at the East Hants Sportsplex in East Hants.

Hockey Nova Scotia president Randy Pulsifer and Joanne Hughes, Hockey Canada’s female council director, will both be in attendance at the Bantam game taking place at 10am at the Centennial Arena in Halifax. They will be available for interviews.

Follow @HockeyNS on Twitter for updates on all four games as they are played across the province.
