HNS receives gear thanks to NHLPA and Maritime NHL'ers for Kids
Jul. 30, 2012

On July 26th, Hockey Nova Scotia was asked to bring 120 minor hockey players to Ken-Wo Golf Course for an incredible day. These minor hockey players were not just spectators, they were active participants in the Maritime NHL'ers for Kids Golf Tournament. Each child acted as a caddy or hole host and spent the entire day interacting with NHL'ers from across the Maritimes.

This experience would not have been possible if it weren't for Vancouver Canucks Associate Coach Rick Bowness and his vision to give back to minor hockey in the Maritimes.
In its 13th year, the Maritime NHL'ers for Kids Golf Tournament continues to get better, contines to give kids memories that will last forever and continues to provide opportunities for Maritime children to participate in hockey.

As part of the event, the NHLPA approved a grant for this year's host - HNS - to receive 20 sets of brand new equipment to be used for HNS development programs.

NHL Players Donate 20 Sets of Equipment to Local Children

Halifax 30 July, 2012 – Hockey Nova Scotia (HNS) is pleased to announce a donation of 20 brand-new sets of hockey equipment, courtesy of the NHLPA’s Goals & Dreams fund. This donation will gear towards helping HNS development programs designed to provide the opportunity to play hockey to children who may otherwise not be able to participate. Rick Bowness associate coach with the Vancouver Canucks and founder of the Maritime NHL’ers for Kids Tournament, is thrilled about this opportunity to give back to the game he loved,

“Every child should be granted the opportunity to play the best game in the world, Canada’s game. Thanks to the NHLPA’s Goals & Dreams fund, we are able to proudly say that 20 kids who otherwise wouldn’t have been given the chance, will get to experience the great game of hockey,” said Bowness.

Chairman of the Goals & Dreams fund, Devin Smith, commented on the success of the program. “Over the last 12 years, NHL players have donated more than $21 million to fund and assist grassroots hockey programs around the world. We’ve sent equipment everywhere from Australia to South Africa, Europe, Malaysia and North America. The biggest obstacle in participating in hockey is the cost of equipment. Our goal is to bridge that gap for less fortunate children.”

“We are honoured to be involved with the Maritime NHL’ers for Kids tournament and in turn granted the exceptional donation of 20 sets of brand-new gear from the NHLPA. Hockey Nova Scotia relies on generous donations such as this to encourage and nurture the growth of hockey in our province. We could not be happier,” said Randy Pulsifer, president Hockey Nova Scotia.

In 1999, the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) launched the Goals & Dreams fund as a way for the players to give something back to the game they love. The players’ program has donated full sets of hockey equipment that has benefited more than 60,000 economically challenged children in 25 countries and assisted with upgrades and the building of hundreds of arenas world-wide. To date, Goals & Dreams has donated more than $21-million to grassroots hockey programs around the world making it the largest program of its kind. For more information on the NHLPA, please visit
