Cole Harbour females get a peak at the future
Dec. 14, 2011

The Cole Harbour Red Wings Female AA Pee Wee Regional team visited with the Mt. Allison University Women’s hockey team for a weekend and experienced what it would be like to acheive the goal of university hockey.
A group made-up of excited 11-12 year olds from Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Eastern Shore and East Hants represnting the Cole Harbour Red Wings spent a weekend with the Mounties Women’s hockey team in Sackville, NB.  This opportunity brought interaction with the team and the ability to see and hear firsthand what university is really like for a varsity athlete.
The weekend organized by the Wings head coach Barry Wisener and Mt. Allison head coach Zach Ball came together after the coaches met at the Hockey Canada High Performance female coach seminar held in September.  The coaches saw an excellent chance to garner even further excitement from up and coming female playes.
On Saturday, the girls took part in a question and answer session,  a swim in the school pool and followed up with a spirited indoor soccer match in the school gym.
On Sunday, after an early wake-up and breakfast the girls practiced with the Mounties and then received a tour of the campus icluding a stop at the campus bookstore. The girls were able to share a pregame meal with their new university friends and attended the pre-game talk with the team and coaches.  They then watched the Mounties take on the Dalhousie Tigers in an exciting game won 7-2 by the home-town Mounties. Finally after the game, the girls had pizza with the team and coaches then departed home around 7:00 PM Sunday night, back to their normal roles as elementary and junior high students.  They came away with many great memories of their weekend as university students and perhaps some new life goals after their amazing experience.
Great job Barry, Zach, Cole Harbour and Mt. Allison, you have set a great example or cooperation and assisting with the development of female hockey!
